Mid-Victorian Inlaid Burr Walnut Davenport Desk

A beautifully crafted mid-Victorian burr walnut davenport desk, circa 1865, showcasing exquisite burr walnut veneers with inlaid stringing in boxwood and ebony, complemented by rosewood banding. The desk features striking Corinthian columns topped with solid brass capitals.

The top section, surmounted by a pierced brass gallery, opens to reveal a fitted interior with stationery compartments. It comes complete with original ink bottles, their lids embossed “London Patent.” The fall is fitted with its original black leather writing surface, finished with gilt tooling, and lifts to access a fitted interior lined in birds-eye maple veneers.

The lower body comprises four functional drawers and four dummy drawers to the verso. Fully finished to the rear, the desk may be free-standing within a room. It stands on original brass and ceramic castors. Professionally cleaned and waxed, it is offered in excellent original condition.
