Late Victorian Mahogany & Inlaid Bureau Bookcase

A fine late Victorian mahogany bureau bookcase featuring decorative satinwood banded inlay and classical detailing. The upper section is surmounted by a shaped pediment with oval fan inlay above a moulded cornice with satinwood banding.

The pair of astragal glazed doors, also decorated with satinwood banding, open to reveal an interior fitted with two adjustable shelves. The bureau section features a fall-front writing surface with satinwood banded inlay and a central shell motif. Opening the fall reveals a fitted interior with pigeon holes and two small drawers.

The base comprises three drawers with oak linings and satinwood banded inlay to the fronts. The drawers retain brass locks stamped “VR Makers to Her Majesty the Queen.” The piece stands on four bracket-shaped feet and has been recently polished. A very good quality bureau bookcase with elegant proportions and decorative detail.
